What Is a Class "G" License?
A Florida Class "G" Statewide Firearm License is required for licensed private investigators, security officers, and other Chapter 493 licensees who are authorized to carry a firearm while performing regulated duties.
Florida law requires the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services (FDACS) to investigate the general physical fitness of Class "G" applicants to bear a weapon or firearm before licensure is granted.

The purpose of the medical evaluation is to determine whether you are physically fit to safely bear a weapon or firearm.
During your visit, the provider will:

Discuss medications and medical conditions that could affect safe firearm handling

Perform an appropriate physical examination

Assess your general physical fitness, sensory perception, strength, endurance, and mobility/motor skills as applicable to safely carrying a firearm
Complete the required FDACS medical certification form when appropriate
What We Don't Do
Our medical certification should not be confused with other requirements for a Class "G" license.
The evaluation is focused on physical fitness. It is not firearms training, a firearms proficiency test, or a determination of whether you meet every legal requirement for a Class "G" license.
FDACS separately investigates your mental history and current mental and emotional fitness. A Class "G" license may be denied based on certain mental-health or drug/alcohol-abuse histories.
In other words, a medical certification does not guarantee that FDACS will approve your Class "G" license.

What Else Is Required for Class "G" License?
Medical certification is only one part of the licensing process.
Applicants must also satisfy FDACS's other requirements, including 28 hours of initial classroom and range training conducted by a licensed Class "K" firearms instructor. Once licensed, Class "G" holders must complete 4 hours of firearms requalification training annually to maintain their license.

Do I need an appointment for an occupational exam?
Can I get the Class “G” certification through telehealth?
Because the certification involves a hands-on exam, an in-person visit is required. Contact Careborne to discuss your individual situation before scheduling.
Most exams require an appointment to ensure proper time and documentation.
Do you accept insurance for these exams?
No. Occupational physicals are self-pay. Insurance may be applied to eligible lab testing when appropriate.
How long do exams typically take?
Most occupational exams take about 15–30 minutes. You walk out with a completed form.
Do you guarantee that I will receive my Class “G” license?
No. Careborne only performs the medical evaluation and certification. FDACS makes the final determination regarding your eligibility and issuance of the license.
What happens after you complete the certification?
We will complete the appropriate medical certification documentation. You are then responsible for submitting your application and supporting documents to FDACS and completing any other licensing requirements.
Do I need to bring my medical records?
Usually, no. However, if you have a medical condition, take medications, or have a history that could be relevant to your ability to safely carry a firearm, bringing pertinent medical records can help make the evaluation more efficient.
Is this a psychological evaluation?
No. The medical certification addresses your general physical fitness to bear a weapon or firearm. FDACS separately evaluates other aspects of an applicant's eligibility, including applicable mental-health and substance-abuse history.
Can I get the certification if I take prescription medications?
Taking prescription medication does not automatically mean that you’ll fail the exam. The doctor will consider your medications and medical conditions in the context of your ability to safely bear a weapon or firearm.
Can you tell me whether I will qualify for a Class “G” license before I come in?
