How the Careborne MRI Referral in Florida Works
Step 1 – FREE Consultation
Fill out a simple online request or call 941-525-9000. A provider will speak with you by phone to discuss your symptoms, relevant medical history, and why you’re considering an MRI.
Together, we’ll determine whether an MRI makes sense – and if so, what type of imaging is appropriate.
The consultation is FREE. If we can’t appropriately help you, you owe us nothing.
Step 2 – Receive Your Referral
If we determine that an MRI is medically appropriate, we’ll prepare your imaging referral and email it to you – usually within 30 minutes.
Take your referral to an imaging center of your choice. You’re free to compare locations, prices, and scheduling options and choose what works best for you.
Then simply schedule your MRI locally and complete the study.
Step 3 – Get Your Results
Once we receive the radiology report, we’ll review the findings and get back to you with our recommendations.
You won’t be left wondering what your MRI report means. We’ll explain the findings in plain language and help you understand what comes next.
If your results suggest that you should see a specialist, we can help you with that referral, too.
What Can an MRI See?
MRI uses a powerful magnetic field and radio waves to create detailed images of organs, tissues, and other structures inside the body. Unlike CT scans and conventional X-rays, MRI does not expose you to radiation.
Depending on your symptoms and medical history, an MRI can be used to evaluate many different parts of the body, including:
Brain & Nervous system
A brain MRI can help evaluate a wide range of conditions affecting the brain, including tumors, blood vessel abnormalities, inflammation, infections, traumatic injuries, and degenerative changes.
Neck & Spine
MRI is particularly useful for evaluating the spinal cord, discs, nerves, and other soft tissues of the neck and spine.
It may help investigate persistent neck or back pain, numbness or tingling, nerve symptoms, disc problems, spinal stenosis, and other conditions when advanced imaging is appropriate.
Joints & Cartilage
MRI is particularly useful for evaluating injuries and abnormalities involving the shoulder, knee, hip, ankle, wrist, and other joints.
Muscles & Soft Tissue
MRI is an excellent tool for evaluating muscles, tendons, ligaments, and other soft tissues, including small tears and other injuries that may not be visible on X-rays.
Abdomen & Pelvis
MRI can provide detailed images of organs and soft tissues in the abdomen and pelvis, helping evaluate abnormalities involving the liver, pancreas, kidneys, adrenal glands, uterus, ovaries, and prostate.
Heart & Blood Vessels
MRI and MRA can provide detailed images of the heart and blood vessels, helping evaluate conditions such as aneurysms, dissections, narrowing (stenosis), blood clots, and other vascular abnormalities.
Breasts
Breast MRI may be used as an additional imaging test, particularly for women at high risk of breast cancer or when other breast imaging requires further evaluation.

The appropriate MRI protocol depends on the part of the body being examined and the clinical question we’re trying to answer.
Some MRI examinations use a gadolinium-based contrast agent to provide additional detail. If you have kidney disease, an allergy to gadolinium, or are pregnant or may be pregnant, be sure to discuss this with the ordering provider and imaging center before your examination.

If You are Pregnant
Always tell your healthcare provider and the imaging facility if you are pregnant or might be pregnant.
MRI does not use ionizing radiation and may be performed during pregnancy when medically necessary. Gadolinium-based contrast is generally avoided during pregnancy unless there is a compelling reason to use it.
Because pregnancy can require more comprehensive evaluation and coordination of care, Careborne does not recommend using an online MRI referral service during pregnancy.
If you’re pregnant and believe you need an MRI, it’s best to discuss your situation with your regular healthcare provider, who can coordinate the appropriate imaging and follow-up care.

Do I Need an MRI?
What if Careborne decides I don’t need an MRI?
That’s okay.
The purpose of the consultation isn’t to sell you an MRI. It’s to figure out the most appropriate next step for your particular situation.
If we determine that an MRI isn’t appropriate – or that you need an in-person examination or another type of care – we’ll tell you.
If we can’t appropriately help you, you won’t be charged.
Maybe – and that’s exactly what the consultation is for.
MRI is an extremely useful diagnostic tool, but more imaging isn’t always better imaging.
The right test depends on your symptoms, medical history, physical findings, previous imaging, and what we’re trying to find.
For example, the American College of Radiology generally considers a lumbar MRI inappropriate as the initial imaging test for uncomplicated acute low-back pain without red flags. An MRI may be appropriate when symptoms persist and surgery is being considered, or when there is concern about a more serious underlying condition.
That’s why Careborne doesn’t simply sell MRI referrals. We evaluate your situation, help determine whether an MRI makes sense, and recommend the appropriate next step.
Is MRI safe?
MRI does not use ionizing radiation and is generally considered a safe.
However, the strong magnetic field means that certain implants, metallic objects, and medical devices can create serious safety concerns. Tell the imaging center about any implants, metal fragments, medical devices, or other relevant medical history before your examination.
Do I need insurance?
No. Careborne is a self-pay medical practice. No insurance is required, and we do not bill insurance.
How much does an imaging referral on Careborne cost?
Because Careborne provides care directly to patients – without the complexity and overhead of insurance – we’re able to keep our prices affordable.
The consultation costs $54. This includes an evaluation by a licensed healthcare provider and, if medically appropriate, an imaging referral.
Can I get an MRI referral right away?
Absolutely. Most referrals are processed within 30 minutes.
Will my insurance cover the MRI?
Possibly. If you have insurance, the imaging center can submit the MRI to your insurance company for coverage. If your insurance doesn’t cover the study, you’ll be responsible for the cost.
The good news is that cash prices for MRI scans have come down significantly in recent years. Depending on the imaging center and the type of MRI, you may find straightforward studies at surprisingly affordable prices. For example, a simple knee MRI without contrast may be available for under $300 at some imaging centers.
It makes sense to shop around. You’re free to compare imaging centers and choose the price and location that work best for you.
Can you guarantee a referral?
While Careborne provides referrals for a number of diagnostic imaging services such as MRIs, CT scans and X-Rays, it's important to note that not all symptoms require imaging for diagnosis. Our free screening appointments are designed to evaluate your condition and determine whether or not imaging is necessary.
Ultimately, all referrals are at the discretion of your provider. If we decide not to provide a referral, you pay nothing.
Will you perform the MRI?
No. Careborne provides the medical evaluation and, when appropriate, the imaging referral. The MRI itself is performed at an independent diagnostic imaging facility and interpreted by a radiologist.
You’re free to choose the imaging center that works best for you.
What if I’m claustrophobic?
If you’re anxious about being inside the MRI scanner, let us know during your consultation. We will prescribe a sedating medication to make your visit more comfortable, if appropriate.
If you are given a sedative, you’ll need a responsible adult to drive you to and from the imaging center. You should not drive yourself after taking a sedative.
Does an MRI referral on Careborne include results interpretation?
Yes. Once we receive your radiology report, we’ll review the findings and send you an email explaining what they mean and sharing our recommendations.
If the results raise questions or you’d like to discuss them in more detail, you can schedule a follow-up consultation. In many cases, however, a simple explanation of the findings and recommended next steps is all you need.
You won’t have to figure out your MRI report on your own.
Can I get the results directly from the imaging center?
Yes. You can request a copy of your MRI report directly from the imaging center. It’s your medical record, and you have the right to access it.
